How to Warm your Mead

Hello, Ricky the Meadmaker here and we've been getting lots and lots of questions about how to warm up Winter Warmer.

Now, if you enjoy the experience of bubbles up your nose winter warmer has “pétillance” l or a small amount of carbonation. So if you put it in the microwave, which is fine, you may retain the bubbles and have a hot beverage which is …an acquired taste.

So your two remaining options, if you don't love that experience, are your stovetop or if you're lucky enough to have a wood-burning stove at home, I prefer to put it on the hob.

The reason I like to do that is it will slowly warm over the course of an hour that it will never boil. There’s a little piece of marble under there to diffuse the heat to make sure it doesn't boil and lose the alcohol.

So that means that you always have warm Winter Warmer at hand and also you'll have driven off those small number of bubbles that can get the mead into your sinuses. Again, if that's your thing, no judgments, but as I said, if you don't have a wood-burning stove when Covid is over you can come use mine, but this year stovetop is just fine.
